Simply, over-thinking means thinking too much or to think about something for a long time. It is a type of mental disorder like anxiety and depression which puts negative thoughts, feelings on your mind and makes you hopeless and worthless. It is one type of fear which forced you to think deeply about normal things or situation and stops you from doing your daily activities.It halts you to be active in your work.You can't enjoy your life if you are an over-thinker. It creates a problem that is never there and never going to be happening in future. It makes us disappoint and never let us to think positive energy.
However over-thinking means not only negative thoughts/feelings, it can be positive thoughts also. It depends on you how you handle it. Of course; itkeeps you busy but takes you nowhere. It causes distress and you can't focus on things that you need to do and sure it stops you from achieving your goals. Also it ruins relationship and friendship too.
Let’s take an example, if I say “I am anover thinker means I can think anything at anytime that may or may not concern to me and never had. If I am an over-thinking person I will surely be a chess grandmaster, come and get me, but sadly that's just my over-thinking mind saying that”.
Types of overthinking
1. RANT-AND-RAVE Overthinking
This is common type and it occurs when something wrong happen to you.People start to observe only bad side of them and start to think about revenge.It supressed poisitive thoughts and play only negative thoughts / emotions in your mind.
2. Life-of-their-own over thinking
It is complex type of overthinking . You start to think negative even in simple and in imaginary things. only bad and stressful experienced comes in your mind.For example,why i shouldn't keep close friends,
3.Chaotic overthinking
This type of overthinking is characterized by random things which may be related or unrelated.
Causes of overthinking
Nosingle cause is involved in overthinking. It is due to multiple factors and ofcourse, it is chronice. one of the cause of overthinking is self doubt.When you started to doubting yourself , many thoughts comes in your mind and slowely it becomes habitual . It come from worrying about the future and regreting from past for self and others.Also result from how you have been treated from your peers, parents and teachers. And yes it can be in both positive and negative ways. It forced you to think about something too much , in a way that is not useful.
Does over-thinking causes anxiety and depression?
Overthinking is a special type of fear that make you to think depth on a normal situation or things and don't let you be active in your work . It hampers you mentally as well as emotionally. Rethinking past stressful situation and bad experienced supressed your good vibes and don't allow your mind to think positivity. It gave more stressed to your mind and also cause insomenia. A feeling of worry and unease arrise due to such condition and in long term so, it causes anxiety.
And Yes, over-thinking also causes depression, but only in chronic condition.
It is the first stage of depression as its signs and symptoms matches with depression. Thinking something that is negative or positive for a long time makes your mind replay negative thoughts. Negative thoughts grow even more powerful and it suppressed positive thoughts and it creates stress, anxiety.
How to stop over-thinking?
Overthinking may be one thing at one time or manythings at a time. It occurs when the thoughts start replaying in mind again and again, people start to analyze themselves insted of taking action. Overthinking can be seen in any age people .so, here are some points that help us to overcome it.
Keep yourself busy
Visit to friends/relatives and talk to them
Engage in activities which helps to divert your mind
Avoid loneliness
Focus on yourself
More focus on solutions rather than problems
Don’t regret on things that are gone
Control your emotions
stay away from toxic people or things
stop comparing your worth & failures to others
Stop worrying about future
Don't engage too much in social medias as it don't let you to refresh your mind.
